Lewis Trucking & Grading Inc began in 1987 with a single dump truck. Over the span of fourteen years Charlie Lewis has expanded that single dump truck into a multi-faceted contracting operation with equipment ranging from dump trucks to motor graders. Charlie B. Lewis developed a relationship with local developers and contractors initially by hauling for enterprises such as Blue Circle Materials, Waste Management of Georgia, Tucker Concrete, Inc. and more.
In 1989, Lewis Trucking Inc was incorporated and ventured outside the boundaries of hauling and began grading small projects. Lewis Trucking Inc initial grading contract was with R.S. Hutchinson Construction Company to perform work for the Madison Elementary School in Madison, Georgia. Work afterwards consisted of small projects for school districts and private owners.
In 1990, Lewis Trucking Inc signed a contract with Turner Construction, Inc. on the Grady Hospital Expansion project. The contract was approximately $1.2 million and enabled Lewis Trucking Inc to compete for larger and more challenging grading projects with local contractors.
In 1991, Lewis Trucking Inc obtained its utility license and began providing site development services. Lewis Trucking Inc began performing all of the aspects of site development such as demolition, excavation, rough and fine grading, water lines, storm and sanitary sewer lines. Offering these services, Lewis Trucking, Inc. was able to bid and secure contracts with HCB Contractors on the Coca-Cola distribution facility in Hapeville and Metric Constructors on the Spelman College Parking Deck.
During 1994 and 1996, Lewis Trucking Inc secured large contracts in several Olympic venues. Metric Constructors, Inc. selected Lewis Trucking Inc to perform the $2.2 million dollar grading and underground utility work on the Wolf Creek Skeet Shooting Park in South Fulton County. Lewis Trucking Inc also completed work for Beers Construction and Turner Construction Company.
Since the Olympics Lewis Trucking Inc continues to secure work through the process of bidding and negotiations with general contractors. Our experience encompasses school districts, local churches, waste water treatment and highway construction. In 1999 Lewis Trucking Inc changed its name to Lewis Trucking & Grading Inc to market the full scope of activities covered by the company. Lewis Trucking & Grading Inc has an $18 million aggregate bonding line with a $15 million single job limit.
Our trucking fleet consists of 10 tractor-trailer units, 8 tandem dump trucks, and an additional $5 million dollars of heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, dozers and scraper pans. With a staff of 100 employees, Lewis Trucking & Grading Inc. is equipped to handle all of the demands of its customer base from hauling, grading, underground utilities and paving.
